Di Pacci — 6-Piece Espresso Accessory Gift Set

Espresso Upgrader Kit — 6-Piece Barista Set

The Espresso Upgrader Kit replaces the plastic tamper and guesswork that came with your machine with the six tools a home barista actually reaches for every morning.

Most entry and mid-range espresso machines ship with a lightweight tamper and little else. This kit fills the gap in one box: an espresso tamper, a milk frothing pitcher, a needle-style WDT tool, an espresso measuring cup, a dosing funnel and a puck screen. Together they cover every step between grinding and pouring — dosing without spilling, breaking up clumps, tamping level, keeping the group head clean and steaming milk you can actually pour.

Bought individually, these six pieces usually mean six separate decisions about size and fit. Here they arrive as a matched set: the tamper, dosing funnel and puck screen are all cut to the same basket size, so nothing turns up a millimetre too wide. Check that size against your machine's filter basket before ordering — that single measurement decides whether the three portafilter tools fit.

Key Features of the Espresso Upgrader Kit

🪡 WDT tool for clump-free grounds

Fine needles stirred through the dose break up the clumps most home grinders leave behind, so water flows evenly through the puck instead of finding a channel and racing through it.

🎯 Sized tamper for a level bed

A tamper cut to the basket size reaches the edge of the basket, which is where the loose grounds that cause sour, fast shots usually hide when a stock tamper is a few millimetres undersize.

🧲 Dosing funnel keeps the bench clean

Sit the funnel on the portafilter while you grind and every gram lands in the basket rather than on the drip tray — which also means the dose you weighed is the dose you brew.

🛡️ Puck screen protects the group head

Placed on top of the tamped puck, the screen spreads water across the whole surface and stops coffee being pushed up into the shower screen, so backflushing becomes an occasional job rather than a weekly one.

Who This Kit Is For

✓ Ideal if you:
  • Just bought a home espresso machine and want the basics in one order
  • Are still tamping with the plastic or lightweight tamper that came in the machine box
  • Get sour or gushing shots you suspect are channelling — the WDT tool and puck screen are the two cheapest fixes
  • Want to start steaming milk properly and don't yet own a pitcher
  • Are buying a gift for a coffee lover and don't want to work out six separate sizes
✗ Consider alternatives if you:
  • Own a machine whose basket size doesn't match the kit — pick a size-matched tamper from the coffee tampers range instead
  • Already have a decent tamper and pitcher — you'd be paying for two items you won't use
  • Want a height-adjustable or calibrated tamper for a competition-level workflow — a Pullman Barista tamper is the better buy
  • Pull dozens of shots a day in a cafe and want repeatable pressure — see the automatic tampers

Espresso Upgrader Kit — Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Espresso Upgrader Kit fit my machine?

It fits any machine whose filter basket matches the kit's size — the tamper, dosing funnel and puck screen are all cut to the same diameter. The measurement to check is the inside diameter of the basket, not the outside of the portafilter. If you're not sure what size your machine uses, call us on (02) 9758 0760 with the model name and we'll tell you before you order.

What does a WDT tool actually do?

It breaks up clumps in freshly ground coffee. You stir the needles through the grounds in the basket for a few seconds before tamping, which leaves an even, fluffy bed. Clumps create dense spots that water skirts around, so this one step is the most common fix for shots that run fast and taste sour.

How do I use the puck screen, and does it change the taste?

Tamp as normal, then lay the screen flat on top of the puck before locking in the portafilter. It spreads water evenly across the coffee and keeps grounds off the shower screen, so the group head stays much cleaner. Most people notice a slightly more even extraction; the main gain is less cleaning. Rinse it under the tap after each shot.

Is the milk pitcher the right size for one or two coffees?

It's a home-sized jug — fill to just below the spout base and you have enough milk for one or two milk drinks without waste. A pitcher that's too large for the dose makes texturing harder, so this size suits a single-boiler or heat-exchanger home machine better than a commercial jug would.

Can I buy the Espresso Upgrader Kit pieces separately?

Yes — Di Pacci stocks tampers, WDT tools, dosing funnels, puck screens and milk pitchers individually in the accessories range. The kit makes sense when you need most of the six items; if you only need one or two, buy those on their own.
