Di Pacci — 180mm Industrial Roastery Coffee Grinder

Mahlkönig DK27 LV Industrial Grinder

The Mahlkönig DK27 LV is a floor-standing production grinder for roasteries that need to grind a quarter of a tonne of coffee an hour.

The Mahlkönig DK27 LV is the largest of Mahlkönig's DK industrial grinders: 180 mm fully hardened cast steel burrs driven by a 5.5 kW three-phase motor, rated by Mahlkönig at roughly 230 kg/h on a fine grind and 250 kg/h on medium. A 30 kg bean hopper feeds it from above and a 200 litre movable container catches the ground coffee below.

It's built for continuous running on a packing line rather than for a cafe. The motor is surface cooled with two extra cooling fans, the bearings are permanently greased and service-free, and a magnet in the hopper catches stray metal before it reaches the burrs. The "LV" version uses cast steel burrs, which Mahlkönig rates at around 15 to 20 tonnes of coffee before they need replacing.

Key Features of the Mahlkönig DK27 LV

⚙️ 180 mm cast steel burrs

The biggest burr set in the DK range grinds evenly at volume and lasts around 15 to 20 tonnes at a medium setting.

🏭 Up to 250 kg per hour

Enough output to grind for retail packs or wholesale orders in a single shift rather than in batches all day.

🔌 5.5 kW three-phase motor

High starting torque and overload protection mean it starts under load and shuts itself off before damage.

🌬️ Built for continuous use

Surface cooling plus two extra fans keep motor and casing temperatures down during long production runs.

🧲 Metal protection

An integrated magnet in the 30 kg hopper catches stray metal before it can reach and damage the burrs.

📦 200 litre ground container

A large movable container sits under a tight discharge chute that keeps dust down in the grinding room.

Why Burr Material Matters at Industrial Volume

At 250 kg an hour, a set of burrs can grind tonnes of coffee in a few weeks, so burr material decides how often production stops for a change. Mahlkönig builds the DK27 with three burr options, and the LV uses fully hardened cast steel.

  • LV (cast steel) is rated at around 15 to 20 tonnes at a medium setting, with 230 to 250 kg/h output.
  • LVS (special steel) grinds faster, at 280 to 300 kg/h, but is rated at around 10 to 15 tonnes.
  • LVH (tungsten carbide) lasts longest, around 35 to 40 tonnes, at 260 to 280 kg/h.

The LV sits in the middle: solid output with longer burr life than special steel, at a lower cost than tungsten carbide. It suits most roasteries grinding for retail and wholesale.

Mahlkönig DK27 LV vs DK15 LS

Both are floor-standing Mahlkönig industrial grinders with the same footprint. The DK27 roughly doubles the output of the DK15.

Feature DK27 LV DK15 LS
Burr diameter 180 mm 130 mm
Burr material Cast steel Special steel
Output (fine / medium) 230 / 250 kg/h 120 / 130 kg/h

Net weight 155 kg 132 kg

Di Pacci recommendation: Choose the DK27 LV when you're grinding well over 100 kg an hour or want headroom for growth. Don't bother with it if your roastery grinds mainly for its own cafes or a modest retail range; the Mahlkönig DK15 LS does the job with less than half the motor power.

Who This Grinder Is For

  • Run long, continuous production shifts
✗ Consider alternatives if you:
  • Only need a cafe or retail shop grinder; see the Mahlkönig EK43 S
  • Grind under about 100 kg an hour; see the Mahlkönig DK15 LS
  • Don't have three-phase power
  • Need it delivered next week; it's a special-order machine
