Description

Di Pacci — 58mm Automatic Tamping Station for Mignon Grinders

Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper

The Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper takes the last hand-made variable out of your shot, levelling every dose the same way in under a second.

The Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper is an electromechanical tamping station designed by Eureka in Florence to work with the Mignon grinder range. Seat a portafilter in the fork and the piston presses a level puck in 0.9 seconds, or 1.4 seconds if you set it to sequential double mode and want two consecutive presses. The standard piston is 58mm, the fork adjusts through 39mm to 60.6mm to clear single, double and naked handles, and Eureka rates the mechanism to at least 300,000 tamps.

What separates it from a generic auto tamper is the size and the finish. At 125mm wide and 143mm deep it asks for about as much bench as a Mignon does, and the matt black body with chrome fork is styled to read as part of the same setup rather than a box parked beside it. Most automatic tampers at this money are built for a café counter and look it. This one was drawn around a home kitchen that already has a Mignon on it — and it still works perfectly well standing on its own, with no Eureka grinder anywhere near it.

Key Features of the Mignon Automatic Tamper

⚡ 0.9-Second Tamp, 1.4 for a Double

A single press takes 0.9 seconds and a sequential double takes 1.4, so automating the tamp costs you nothing in workflow speed — it just removes the part where your arm decides how hard today's shot gets pressed.

🎯 58mm Standard, Four Optional Disk Sizes

It ships with the 58mm disk fitted, which suits the majority of portafilters. Eureka also sells 53mm, 54.3mm, 57.3mm and 58.3mm tamper kits separately if your basket needs a tighter fit.

📐 Fork Adjusts From 39mm to 60.6mm

The height range covers single, double and naked portafilters, so one tool handles whichever handle you reach for — and it drops low enough to line up with a Mignon's dosing position.

🧼 Lift-Out Disk, 300,000-Tamp Rating

The tamping disk comes out for cleaning or replacement, so a coffee-caked or worn head doesn't mean sending the whole unit away. Eureka rates the mechanism to at least 300,000 tamps before wear becomes a consideration.

Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper vs PUQ Press Gen 6 Mini

At this end of the market the real decision is between a tamper built around one grinder family and a tamper built to work with anything. Both automate the same job; they take different views on how much control you want over it.

Feature Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper PUQ Press Gen 6 Mini
Tamp cycle 0.9s single, 1.4s sequential double 1.3s
Tamping force {{TAMPING_PRESSURE_SHORT — see handover note}} Adjustable, 10–30kg
Disk sizes 58mm fitted; 53, 54.3, 57.3, 58.3mm kits sold separately 58.3mm, fits VST baskets
Duty guidance Rated to at least 300,000 tamps Rated to around 7kg of coffee per week
Best suited to Mignon owners who want a matched, low-footprint set Any 58mm setup, home through small café

Di Pacci recommendation: If there's already a Mignon on your bench, the Eureka is the one that will sit and look like it belongs there, and the four optional disk diameters cover odd baskets that a fixed-head tamper simply won't fit. Don't bother if you want to dial the tamping force yourself — the PUQ Press Gen 6 Mini gives you an adjustable 10–30kg range and no allegiance to a particular grinder. And if you pull half a dozen shots a week and hand tamping has never bothered you, a calibrated spring tamper under $100 solves the same consistency problem for a fraction of the money.

Eureka Mignon Grinders That Pair With It

Eureka lists the tamper alongside the Mignon models below. Fit varies slightly between bodies in the range, so if you're matching it to a grinder you already own, it's worth a quick call to confirm before you order.

Grinder Burr Why it pairs well
Mignon Specialità 55mm flat The most common Mignon on Australian benches, and the body the tamper's proportions were drawn around
Mignon Specialità Smart 55mm flat App-controlled dosing plus automated tamping removes both hand-made variables from puck prep
Mignon Libra 55mm flat, grind-by-weight The scale weighs the dose and the tamper levels it — about as close to hands-off as espresso gets
Mignon Silenzio 55 55mm flat Quiet grinding and a sub-second tamp keeps a 6am kitchen from waking the house
Mignon Turbo 65mm flat Faster grinding for a busy small-café bench, where tamping quickly becomes the bottleneck

Who This Tamper Is For

✓ Ideal if you:
  • Already own a Eureka Mignon and want the tamper to match it rather than clash with it
  • Pull four or more shots a day and want every puck levelled identically
  • Share the machine with someone whose tamping technique is nothing like yours
  • Have wrist, elbow or shoulder trouble that hand tamping aggravates
  • Run a small café, office or cart where 125mm of bench width is the constraint
✗ Consider alternatives if you:
  • Want to set the tamping force yourself — the PUQ Press Gen 6 Mini is adjustable from 10 to 30kg
  • Use a 49mm or 51mm portafilter — Eureka's disk range starts at 53mm, so browse the manual tampers instead
  • Are pushing café volume through it all day — the Puqpress Q2 is built for that duty cycle
  • Only pull a few shots a week — a calibrated spring tamper under $100 does the job for a tenth of the price

Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper — Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper fit my portafilter?

If you have a standard 58mm portafilter, yes. The tamper ships with the 58mm disk fitted and the fork adjusts from 39mm to 60.6mm in height, which covers single, double and naked handles. Eureka also sells replacement tamper kits in 53mm, 54.3mm, 57.3mm and 58.3mm as separate accessories, so a non-standard basket can usually be accommodated — call us on (02) 9758 0760 with your machine model and we'll confirm which disk you need.

Do I need a Eureka Mignon grinder to use it?

No. Eureka designed it to match the Mignon range, but it runs perfectly well as a standalone tamping station on any bench, with any grinder and any 58mm portafilter. The Mignon pairing is a styling and footprint advantage rather than a functional requirement.

Which Eureka Mignon grinders does the Automatic Tamper pair with?

Eureka lists the tamper alongside the Mignon Specialità, Specialità Smart, Specialità Compatto, Turbo, Silenzio 55, Bravo, Classico, Manuale, Libra, Libra 65 All Purpose, Zero, Zero 55S and Zero 65 All Purpose. Fit does vary a little between bodies in the range, so ring us on (02) 9758 0760 with your exact grinder model before ordering if the pairing is the reason you're buying it.

How much pressure does the Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper apply?

It applies the same pressure on every cycle, which is the entire point of an automatic tamper — the tenth shot of the day is compressed exactly like the first. Eureka does not publish a force figure or an adjustable range for this particular model, unlike its larger Disko and under-the-grinder tampers which are specified at 10 to 30kg. If being able to dial the force yourself matters to you, ask us before ordering, or look at the PUQ Press Gen 6 Mini.

How do you clean an automatic tamper?

The tamping disk lifts out, so you can wipe down the head and the surrounding recess rather than working around a fixed piston. Grounds build up under the disk faster than most people expect, so a weekly pull-and-wipe is sensible for daily use. The removable disk also means a worn or damaged head is a part swap, not a service job.

What warranty does the Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper come with?

12 months parts and labour, as an Australian warranty through Di Pacci rather than a claim you have to chase in Italy. Our in-house service team handles it directly and carries parts in stock, so if something does go wrong you're dealing with technicians in Sydney rather than a freight queue. Call (02) 9758 0760 to arrange service.
